The Mark of God

Here is the beauty that, in my belief, could only exist if we were the products of a grand and wonderful Deity....

You might disagree, but I don't find anything worthy of argument here....

The Greenway Photography Walk (Part 2)

Time for a Sunday Walk

Lots of snapshots; lots more walking.  But a nice Sunday it was.  I walked about six miles, and took more than 200 photos, plus the videos you see below.

As a side-note, the Giants barely won the Super Bowl.  In that last play, if the Patriots had caught the ball in that final play, the outcome would have been totally different.

Anyway, here's what I got for you, with some decent images and videos below.  First, though, we start with a discriminatory image:

What about Kitty Cats? This kind
of discrimination should be outlawed.
[LOL]

The first video was at the Village Green, at Keith & Inman in Cleveland.  (The new camera records in MOV format, which Blogspot apparently can't handle.  So, I uploaded them as unlisted videos to YouTube.)

The second video was recorded because it occurred to me I had no idea what the waterway that the Greenway followed was named.  It's used as a drain off creek, but I don't know what it's called.

Here's the beginning of the South side of the Greenway.

Okay.  Which way am I going?

Come with me across the bridge...

Not only ducks need to swim...

After awhile, it's not just desperation that drives you...

And the final video, when I got back to Cooke's...

Although I said there would be a bonus video at the Church of God, I was afraid of battery power, so I took photos instead.  Here the main ones:

"Divine Servant"

"Fisher of Men"

Unknown name.  I'm calling it the
"Lighthouse of Souls"

Here are some additional shots out of the collection:

The Rotary Club sponsored a water fountain.  Wow.

Pre-dam effect.

Dam effect.

Still waters (run deep.)

Panorama of the Church of God complex off of 25th and Keith near the Greenway.

Duckies!

Camera-generated sketch of part of the Greenway.

Panorama of what we call the Gazebo at Inman and Ocoee.

Pretty duck...

Something you don't see very often - a glass Coke bottle.

Panorama from the Soccer field at Lee University.

When I first read this, I thought they were announcing the
intent to close the school in 2021.  My bad...

I hope you enjoyed this collection of pics and videos.  We will be going to Chattanooga soon, to start filming and hopefully doing some interviews.  Stay tuned as developments continue.

The Greenway Photography Walk

Berries in February (zoomed in).
On Friday, February 3rd, 2012 (also known as "yesterday" to normal people), I went for a walk, taking snapshots of the Greenway in Cleveland, TN.  This was the last day of no rain in the forecast for awhile, so it was now or never.

I took 195 photos total, and 4 videos.  The camera started acting up, requiring me to turn it on after every two to three shots.  I suspect a bad switch (causing an open circuit), but I returned it last night and got a new one.

Here are four videos and some of those snapshots for your enjoyment.  In the fourth video, I promise a fifth, but the camera died before I could finish the Cooke's end of the Greenway.

Here we start on the other side of The Home Depot, where the Greenway begins.

Here's where I got a bit confused about where the path was going...

Here's where the path died....

...and where it picked back up on the other side.  (Had to backtrack from Cooke's to get here.)

In the last video, I said that there would be at least one more video, but...  The camera died, and we wound up returning that one, and buying a different one.  I plan on finishing the photo shoot this next week, and I will record at least Part 5 of this series then; possibly more.

And some photos:

Mitt Romney & The Poor - Urrrrrgh!!!

Politics & This Film

I am trying very hard to keep the majority of politics out of this film.  Be that as it may, this is an election year, as all Leap Years are.  That is why I am insisting on a July release for this film, at the latest.

Mitt Romney & The Poor

Here's what he said that irked me:
"I'm not concerned about the very poor; we have a safety net there, if it needs repair I'll fix it.  I'm not concerned about the very rich; they're doing just fine."
Well, here's my challenge to Mr. Romney, Presidential Hopeful:

I live in a homeless shelter in Cleveland, TN.  This is a "safety net" not created by you, Congress, or government, but in fact by concerned Christians.  The shelter receives some minor government monies, but most of it is surplus items, like food.

Tennessee is a Right-To-Work state.  If you're from Tennessee, this is great.  If you're not, you better have employment set up before you move here.  Here's what I need in order to get a job here:
  • A home, or established location (that's not a shelter's address) for at least 6-months in the state
  • A local driver's license (which requires a home, as the Tennessee Dept. of Safety does not ship to "General Delivery" (the manual says $19.50)
  • Reliable transportation ($1 per trip, or $10 for 20 trips, or $20 for unlimited, dated 1st to last day of month)
  • Access to shower and washer/dryer facilities (paid for or live at shelter)
  • Decent (and proper) clothes, like pants, shirts, shoes, boots, underwear
While it's true this is only a few hundred dollars worst case, I'd like to see one of our esteemed Congressional leaders move here without resources, then say something about a "safety net."  I do not have the money to change my license, or have anywhere for them to send it if I did.

Does anyone but me get this Catch-22?  The old addage "You gotta have money to make money" is as true today as it was when said.  Worse now, I suspect.

We're shooting for a July release of this much-needed film.  It won't be a "We Da Sheeple" film, but it will be associated with the brand.

Last comment, Mr. Romney: I know you're not concerned about the very rich -- you and your friends are doing just fine, and will continue to do so, so long as those less fortunate continue to help you make money.  What do you do if we decide not to anymore?  Food for thought, huh?

Welcome to Broken Bandage!

Why the Name "Broken Bandage"?

I released a paper in January of 2012 entitled "Cleveland TN Emergency Shelter: Why a Step-Up Program is Needed."  After this, I started meeting people who had been to other shelters, and their stories got me to thinking about one detail: There are people (such as myself) caught in the cracks of society between Church and State.  Some, by choice.  Others, by simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or making the wrong decisions about things that shouldn't even be an issue in this day and age.

One issue is this: Nobody in this country should ever have to worry about what they're going to eat, or where they're going to sleep.  The United States is perhaps the richest per capita country on planet Earth, and it is unforgivable to permit our people to treated as pawns in a monetary war between the rich, the government, and the churches.  This is a lot more expensive to the public than simply housing the homeless.

The idea for the title, "Broken Bandage", came from my paper, wherein Michael Glass is quoted as saying; "Shelters serve a purpose, but they're a band-aid." I got to thinking about this, and realized they're broken band-aids.  But I can't call the movie this because Band-Aid is a registered trademark. Bandage, is generic and usable.

So, What's Next, Danny?

Several friends suggested that I not limit the ideas presented in my paper to just Cleveland.  After several conversations with Ms. Teem, my Co-Producer, we decided to buy a decent camera (which we got a really good deal on!), and start taking snapshots around the area. Over the next month, I plan to go to Chattanooga and Dalton, Georgia, to get a better representation of shelters in the area.

I won't be giving out more details, as this is a project in-progress.  But I'm leaving you here with a photo we took which should get you thinking.
