Politics & This Film
I am trying very hard to keep the majority of politics
out of this film. Be that as it may, this is an election year, as all Leap Years are. That is why I am insisting on a July release for this film,
at the latest.
Mitt Romney & The Poor
Here's what he said that irked me:
"I'm not concerned about the very poor; we have a safety net there, if it needs repair I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich; they're doing just fine."
Well, here's my challenge to Mr. Romney, Presidential Hopeful:
I live in a homeless shelter in Cleveland, TN. This is a "safety net" not created by you, Congress, or government, but in fact by concerned Christians. The shelter receives some minor government monies, but most of it is surplus items, like food.
Tennessee is a Right-To-Work state. If you're
from Tennessee, this is great. If you're not, you better have employment set up
before you move here. Here's what I need in order to get a job here:
- A home, or established location (that's not a shelter's address) for at least 6-months in the state
- A local driver's license (which requires a home, as the Tennessee Dept. of Safety does not ship to "General Delivery" (the manual says $19.50)
- Reliable transportation ($1 per trip, or $10 for 20 trips, or $20 for unlimited, dated 1st to last day of month)
- Access to shower and washer/dryer facilities (paid for or live at shelter)
- Decent (and proper) clothes, like pants, shirts, shoes, boots, underwear
While it's true this is only a few hundred dollars worst case, I'd like to see one of our esteemed Congressional leaders move here without resources,
then say something about a "safety net." I do not have the money to change my license, or have anywhere for them to send it if I did.
Does anyone but me get this Catch-22? The old addage "You gotta have money to make money" is as true today as it was when said. Worse now, I suspect.
We're shooting for a July release of this much-needed film. It won't be a "We Da Sheeple" film, but it will be associated with the brand.
Last comment, Mr. Romney: I know you're not concerned about the very rich -- you and your friends are doing just fine, and will continue to do so, so long as those less fortunate continue to help you make money. What do you do if we decide
not to anymore? Food for thought, huh?
